ACELS is the body remitted with the development and management of an inspection/ recognition scheme for English Language Teaching organisations (ELTOs) nationally. All recognised ELTOs are listed on the ACELS website (www.acels.ie) and on the Failte Ireland and Education in Ireland listings. Recognition is granted after a process of documentation submission and inspection of the organisation has taken place and been deemed to meet standards. In order to prepare for the transition of functions to the new agency (QQI) and the reassignment of resources across the new organisation, ACELS will not be accepting any new applications as of September 1st 2012, pending the establishment of the new organisation. It is anticipated that the QQI will be open for new business re recognition of English Language Teaching organisations in Spring 2013. The new agency will facilitate the achievement of a coherent and consistently applied system of qualifications and quality assurance in education and training nationally. It will maintain, promote and develop the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), working with Institutions and providers to ensure that greater opportunities will be available to learners nationally for participation in high quality education and training. Aspirant providers are advised that, following the establishment date, QQI will implement integrated policies on provider registration and recognition of organisations across further and higher education and training. In anticipation of the establishment date, aspirant providers should familiarise themselves with the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Act 2012.
