Super Intensive Hungarian (16 lessons a week)

Hungarian Language School (Magyar Iskola) was founded in 1991 and teaches only Hungarian as a foreign language: it describes itself as the largest and oldest school in Hungary dedicated exclusively to Hungarian. Over the years it has moved several times within Budapest, each time to larger premises. Today its 9 classrooms are on the 4th floor of Petőfi Sándor utca 11, in Budapest's 5th district (Belváros), right in the city centre. You can take a virtual tour of the school (Google Maps) to see the classrooms and common areas before you arrive.

Courses and method. Group courses run from complete beginner to C1, with 8-9 students per class on average and a minimum age of 18. The syllabus is modular and aligned with the CEFR: each sub-level (A1.1, A1.2, A2.1 and so on) is a module that usually lasts eight weeks, with 64 lessons in the intensive courses and 32 in the evening course; the Super Intensive covers two modules in eight weeks. Lessons last 45 minutes and use the MagyarOK textbook and workbook (bought separately). Classes aim to be welcoming and supportive, with active participation in class, and the school recommends spending about half as much time studying at home as in class. Price is the same for every level. New beginner groups start every two weeks, while students with previous knowledge take an online placement test and join an ongoing group at their level on a Monday.

Learning resources. The course fee includes access to the school's online platform (SchoolDrive), an end-of-module test and a certificate on successful completion. Alongside the classroom lessons, students have access to the school's online learning resources: an e-learning platform with almost 950 exercises from A1.1 to A2.4, built on the same curriculum as the live courses (with listening and video tasks and a game-style revision challenge at the end of each module), and AI-based tools for learning Hungarian, such as an AI speaking tutor that gives instant feedback on pronunciation, fluency and accuracy.

Hours. Classes run throughout the day, from 08:00 to 19:30 depending on the course. In-person customer service (the school office) is open Monday to Thursday, 10:00-15:00. Budapest Airport is about 15 km away. The school does not issue visa or residence-permit documents.
