One to One (20 lessons per week)

STAR Exeter English Language & Foundation Provider is an independent English language school in the centre of Exeter, the historic county city of Devon in the south west of England, about 2 hours from London by train. It is accredited by the British Council (Accreditation UK) and, according to its 2026/2027 brochure, has been teaching English to students from all over the world for 45 years. It is a small, personal school run by its owner and director, Caz Potten, and her team. The school is at 89A Queen Street, in the city centre, above Caffè Nero and across the road from the Guildhall shopping centre, close to shops, restaurants and the bus and train stations. Teachers hold qualifications such as the Cambridge CELTA, Trinity Cert. TESOL or Delta, classes have a maximum of 12 students and lessons last 90 minutes. Teaching follows a communicative approach: every student has an individual learning plan, regular tutorials with the class teacher and weekly and monthly progress tests. According to the school, an average student moves from B1 (IELTS 4.0) to B2 (IELTS 5.0) in about 12 weeks. Courses for adults from 16: General English (15 hours a week, or 21 hours with afternoon classes), IELTS preparation, a combination of group and one-to-one lessons, and one-to-one tuition; the school also runs an International Foundation Programme for entry to UK universities. Students stay with carefully chosen local homestays. There is a student kitchen with free tea and coffee, a quiet room and library, free Wi-Fi, and a busy social programme, often led by the teachers, with trips to Bristol, London, Bath, Stonehenge, the Jurassic Coast, beaches and national parks.
