CIEL Bretagne (Centre international d'étude des langues) is a French language school created in 1987 by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Finistère. It is housed in a 19th-century mansion in a 2.5-hectare wooded park overlooking the Elorn estuary, in Le Relecq-Kerhuon, next to Brest, at the western tip of Brittany. Every year it welcomes 300 to 500 students and teachers of French from all over the world. The school has held the Qualité FLE label since 2007 (3 stars in all five areas), is a member of Groupement FLE and a trusted partner of Campus France. Some of its courses are approved for Bildungsurlaub (ask us which ones). Group classes start every Monday for all levels except complete beginners (beginners have their own intensive course with fixed start dates), from 16 years of age. The buildings were fully renovated in 2019: 24 classrooms with screens or projectors, 4 computer rooms, a resource centre, a self-service restaurant, a recreation room, free Wi-Fi, wheelchair access and free parking. Students live with carefully chosen host families, most of them in individual houses, with airport or station pick-up included. Brest has an international airport and a TGV station (Paris is about 1 hour by plane), and bus line 17 stops at the school. In summer, French can be combined with catamaran or windsurfing. The school also runs a University pathway (26 July to 29 August 2027, minimum level B1) and summer schools for undergraduate students (French + Science and Technology of the Sea; Boost your French, Discover International Business).
