English courses in Adelaide, Australia

Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is Australia's fifth-largest city, with about 1.5 million people, and it is known for being relaxed, easy to get around and more affordable than Sydney or Melbourne. The city centre was laid out on a grid by Colonel William Light and is surrounded by a ring of green parks, the Adelaide Park Lands, with the River Torrens running between the centre and North Adelaide. A tram links the centre with the beach at Glenelg, and wine regions such as the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills are within easy reach for weekend trips.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers (average highs of about 29 °C in January) and mild, wetter winters (about 15 °C in July). Late summer is festival season, with the Adelaide Festival, the Adelaide Fringe and WOMADelaide. Remember that the seasons are the opposite of Europe's: the long school holidays are in December and January.

Getting there: Adelaide Airport is about 7 km west of the city centre, with domestic and international flights. To study for up to 3 months you can usually use a visitor visa; for longer courses you need a student visa and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Check the requirements for your nationality on the Australian Department of Home Affairs website.
