English courses in Exeter, England

Exeter is the historic capital of Devon, in the south west of England, a compact, walkable cathedral city of about 130,000 people on the River Exe. Its Gothic cathedral, the remains of the Roman city walls and the old Quayside give it a lot of character, and the University of Exeter keeps the centre young and international. Students find it a safe, friendly and manageable place to learn English, far from the crowds of London.

The climate is mild and oceanic, with cool, damp winters and pleasant, rarely hot summers; bring a raincoat all year. Exeter is a good base for trips: the Jurassic Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Dartmoor National Park are close, and the beaches of the south Devon coast are a short train ride away.

Getting there: Exeter has its own airport with flights to the UK and Europe, and fast trains to London Paddington (around two hours), Bristol and Plymouth from Exeter St Davids. Visa rules for studying in the UK depend on your nationality and the length of your course; check them on gov.uk before you book.
